ACHIEVEMENTS

MIGRATED Novell Netware file and print services to Microsoft Windows 2000. After researching best options and approaches, created a plan to copy over all users and files. As a result, after some brief user training, the project was a total success.

RESEARCHED and IMPLEMENTED an anti-virus solution by reviewing several options and choosing an appropriate tool that would support all of the organization's Windows, Linux, MacOS and Solaris environments. As a result, once installed, virus incidences were reduced from major problems to minor annoyances.

COMMUNICATED and TAUGHT UNIX concepts to several engineers who would continually ask questions on the subject. By listening to their questions and misunderstandings, was able to use concepts to help them develop a broader understanding, which resulted in immediate work improvements.

DESIGNED and DEVELOPED a perl backup script that was able to backup local and remote systems in Full and Incremental modes. After reviewing the requirements, a diagram was drawn of what needed to be done, and coding was started. Using common tools including perl, tar, ssh and rsync allowed the script to be highly portable, and also very configurable. After the script was set up, there was only one issue that had been brought by the client, which was solved with small explanation.

INVESTIGATED and SOLVED PROBLEMS related to employee complaints of "slowness" on the company network. After completing tests and analysis on the system, was able to determine that bad network cabling was allowing packets to be dropped. After replacing these cables, there were no more packets dropped and complaints subsided.
